Enough with the French

After yesterday's love fest with France, I was feeling down about the good old US of A so I wanted to look into if there was something that I could find in American employment law that could make up for our health care being so inferior to France's. I know yesterday's presenters showed us that graphic about how much Americans spend on health care. I also remember hearing that our medical systems are successful just not accessible. So what about our wonderful capitalist society makes medicine affordable to most Americans? And what monetary law were we discussing last week? That's right minimum wage laws.

So knowing American minimum wage is $5.15 an hour, I found this website that said that French minimum wage is 7.61 Euros/hr (approx. $10.35) starting with people who work 39 hrs a week.
http://www.eurofound.europa.eu/eiro/2005/07/study/tn0507101s.html Unfortunately we lose again, Dang it!

Can any restore my faith in our country? What makes up for our low minimum wage and unaccessable healthcare?

Remember at the beginning of the semester, I don't even know what the topic of conversation was, but someone said that it's really hard in France to be an entrepreneur. Because of France's laws regarding the maximum number of hours someone can work (only 35 a week), new business owners have a really hard time getting their started. They can't require employees to put in the extra hours that are needed at a company's birth. In America, this wouldn't be a problem because many people would be more than willing to work long hours to get a company started if it meant getting ahead. We reward hard work and extra effort here. So I guess our capitalistic society isn't all bad...

All is still well I believe that although America's access to healthcare may be close to last on many lists, it is still quite well-known that our healthcare system is still a world-leader for those who can afford it. The accessibility is a major problem that needs to be solved, most likely not by a universal system, but those with money and insurance can sleep well at night knowing that they have the best doctors and resources available to them in this country.
